What We Do

The Center’s approach encompasses a variety of processes and strategies aimed at integrating geographic analysis into educational policy research. These include:

  • Employing GIS and MMGIS to map educational landscapes, identifying patterns of inequality and opportunities for policy intervention.
  • Conducting qualitative research to understand the lived experiences of students and families in different geographic contexts.
  • Offering recommendations for policy and practice that promote spatial justice and educational equity.

Our work distinguishes itself by focusing on the spatial dimensions of education policy, an area often overlooked in educational research. The end goal is to influence policy and practice in ways that ensure equitable educational opportunities for all, regardless of geography.

The Center serves a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including:

  • Educational policymakers and administrators seeking data-driven insights for equitable policymaking.
  • School districts and community organizations interested in the just allocation of educational resources.
  • Researchers and scholars in education and geography fields looking for innovative methodologies and collaborative opportunities.
  • Students and families, particularly those in underserved areas, who stand to benefit from policies informed by spatial justice.
